Organic Lawn Weed Killer As A Method Of Getting Rid Of Weed Problem

By Enid Hinton

A weed is any plant that grows in a surrounding that is not of its own. They can be frustrating especially if they grow on the garden lawns. The beauty of such lawns will be interfered with. Fortunately, there is an organic lawn weed killer that aids in getting rid of the problem.

Intrusive shrubs like any other plant requires moisture and sunlight to grow. It can grow just about anywhere as long as there is space and the two components. Nevertheless, there are conditions that might activate its development. For example, wet grasses and improper or not applying fertilizers. These two conditions would weaken the plants and grasses in the front or back yard hence creating space for its growth. To prevent such, a proper management yard program should be installed that would guide on maintaining a healthy yard.

Some individuals may decide to dig up the shrubs with their hands. It is a good way to rid yards of intrusive species but it consumes a lot of energy and time. Additionally, the hand picking process can become stressful if the shrub has vigorously spread. Therefore, an alternative method can be used, that is, using chemicals. Still, the alternate is to be conducted at a precise period for best results.

In general, the best time to apply these killers is during the summer months. At this time of the year the species is usually emerging vigorously making it the ideal time. Additionally, it is advised to smear nitrogen fertilizer about 10 days before the operation begins.

Some of the pesticides used include:

Acetic acid. It effective in causing dryness to plants hence their death. The limitation of vinegar is that, it is non-selective. This means it kills both invasive and normal plants. As a result, one should be very careful when applying it. To be specific, using a brush to paint the acid would be best.

Herbicidal soaps. They are non- selective and tends to break and interfere with the protective layer of leaves in plants. This causes dehydration and death of leaves. Unfortunately, they effectively work on newly upcoming shrubs and fail to kill roots for older and mature ones.

Corn gluten meal. It is most effective in specific environmental conditions and on weed saplings.

There are specific guidelines put in place during application to ensure the process turns out successfully. One important guideline is, when using a liquid chemical, the weather conditions should be appropriate, that is, not raining to avoid washing away of the chemical. For granular products, the opposite applies. That is, pouring water after applying the organic chemicals.

It is very important that a yard owner should ensure the problem would not re- emerge. One should for instance use the right mowing techniques to ensure it does not create bare patches which would attract more intrusive species. Also, a yard owner should use the correct fertilizers which would encourage strong growth and discouraging invading plants.

To summarize, it is important to have preventive ways to protect yards from being invaded by weeds over and over again. This saves on time and money.
