People are now starting to plant again and produce their own because they are into to securing the food they are eat which is free from harmful chemicals and is a good way in saving money. Planting is a good way as a stress reliever since, it helps you to interact with nature that brings a positive aura in your home. It can also add color and design to your place.

We are into planting more organic food because we want to boost our body nutrients and we are conscious to our health as well. One of the best vegetable that we can possibly plant is the asparagus, because it provides a lot of healthy benefits. It is easy on how to plant and grow asparagus in your place by yourself.

Before we start talking about on planting it, let us learn some important things about asparagus. They are related to onion and garlic and its shoots are the ones can be eaten because when a bud starts blooming it becomes hard. In other countries, there are a lot of ways to eat and to prepare and they are common to restaurants as side dish.

It is about 2 to 3 years for the plant to produce however, its productivity last for 20 to 30 years. The perfect season to plant them is on Spring season because the soil is good for planting. Make their beds for about 2 to 4 inch in a mix type of soil and get all the weeds surrounding it.

Have a trench as deep as 6 to 12 inches and check that it has a proper water irrigation because they are not wet kind of plant. Create a mound to be located in the trench and start placing the crowns with several spaces apart, in order for them to grow thoroughly. Cover it with not so much soil just to create another layer and water them properly.

When they are starting to grow, make sure that you fill the trench with soil leaving 3 to 4 inches of the stem to be exposed. By the time that the trench is filled try to add a 4 to 8 inch layer of mulch and water them regularly. Do not harvest it when you reach its first year instead, try cutting down dead foliage.

They are harvested within a time span of 2 to 3 weeks where a spear starts to appear as thick as a pencil. You can see on their appearance that they are more vegetative and establish. Let them grow again and renew their vitamins and minerals for the following production.

There are two of this type, the white asparagus which are the kind that can grow even with the absence of sunlight and that prevents the chlorophyll from developing. They are sweeter, but it has less fiber. We have this Purple asparagus where it was planted as purple but it turns into green when cooked, and they are thicker but less spears.

In preparing it, just avoid ways that you might lose its nutrients. They can help against cancer which has the ability to neutralize cells that are damage. It has a high of amino acid where it can help people who have kidney problems.
