Why An Outdoor Pool Shower Is Beneficial

By Roger Olson

Pools are a tremendous amount of fun and can provide hours of entertainment for family and guests. But, with all of that fun also comes a lot of maintenance and money spent on chemicals to treat the water and keep it safe. These can be minimized with the use of an outdoor pool shower. It is not only dirt that can cause problems, but the oils, sweat, and products that most people use on their skin and hair that can cause big issues and imbalance in the chemicals required to maintain swimming water.

Public pools, whether indoor or outdoor, require users to shower before entering the water. The reasons are the same for having people shower before using a private, backyard pool. Rinsing those personal products and body oils away before swimming helps to keep the pH balance in the water proper and requires less use of chemicals to do so. Even chemicals and soaps in laundry products can cause problems so having guests thoroughly rinse their skin and swimming gear is beneficial.

Showers can be very simple. A bag can be purchased that is hung in the air and releases water that has been warmed in the sun. It requires refilling, but is a low cost option and can be incorporated into almost any pool area with very few modifications. It serves the purpose and is portable.

If desired, a company can be hired to design and build a fancier version. A shower can be plumbed in and provide control of water temperature, and work much like an indoor shower with no refilling of bags required. Some are so nice that they can rival even the most beautiful indoor shower.

For the handy person, there are many options to build one. These run from simple to not so simple. Depending on the space available, the budget, and the design desired, it could be well worth spending a weekend doing. While all serve the same purpose, it is a matter of personal preference. Many want it to fit into the existing landscape and outdoor decor.

Of course, unless the shower is used, it defeats the purpose of having one. Be sure to educate pool users as to why it is important and what happens to the water if it is not used. Make it a requirement for everyone to rinse prior to using the pool.

It is also beneficial to rinse off after swimming, and it can be easiest to do this using the outdoor shower. Removing pool chemicals from the skin and swimwear is always a good idea and can prolong the life of swimwear and prevent itchiness and reactions from chlorine and other chemicals.

An outdoor shower makes it easy and convenient for swimmers to rinse prior to and following a dip in the water. Ensuring that guests understand the importance of its use can help make the use of outdoor space more enjoyable for everyone.
