You are probably wondering right now if you should be getting a pet or not. In fact most of the people you know do have pets and seem to be very happy with their pets. Right now you may be deciding on a dog as a possible pet and companion as soon as you saw the French bullies for sale sign earlier. Before you do take the commitment and plunge, do read on in this article for some good facts and information on this dog breed.

This breed is an offshoot of a much older bulldog and mastiff line from the Greek era. They were primarily bred for the blood sport of bull baiting which was most popular around the European and Mediterranean areas. They were widely distributed by Phoenician traders. When the sport was outlawed, these bulldogs became domesticated pets and raised for non sporting purposes.

Many would believe that it is like the English bulldog, but in fact it is much smaller with more erect ears. The British bulldog also looks more pug like. Temperament wise this breed is much tamer and more docile, so there is no danger of leaving it alone with children or even other animals in your residence.

Many attest to these dogs being excellent or great companions, although they do seem to monger attention a lot. When they gee that they are not getting enough attention they will let out a yodel, or what has been termed the French death yodel. The breed is also quite protective, especially the females, of people that are around them Thus you can rest assured that they will guard your kids if you are not around.

Most people would call this dog, alongside the British Bulldog, as the ultimate indoor dog. This is because it is quite content not doing anything, and can also adjust well to small spaces and residential areas. Even though it may seem lethargic, it still does require a daily dose of mild exercise, such as a 30 minute walk to stretch its legs out.

Since this dog has a compact airway due to its size, and also it has somewhat of a snub nose, it will have difficulty in regulating its temperature. Many deaths have occurred due to extreme heat or cold conditions, the latter occurring due to its fairly thin coat of fur. This is not the dog for you if you live in areas with extreme temperature conditions. This dog lives best in a temperate environment or climate.

As the French bully will get older, it will develop eye problems that will be of concern to you. This is basically a given for all dogs of this breed. It also does not live very long on average, as it only lives on average eight to ten years. However, this can be extended with proper care and maintenance.

This article has covered some basic information you may need to know on this breed before you make a final decision. It is by no means an exhaustive list of what you need to know, but suffice it to say it covers most of general concerns by dog owners and lovers alike. Do make an effort to do additional research if you feel you have to.
