Greeks have set the pace for the world on numerous fronts including on the plate. Their food variety will make your breakfast, lunch and dinner tasty and memorable. Their drinks are outstanding, with options for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic serving. The taste of authentic Greek cuisine is exemplary and mainly composed of grains, meat, fish, bread and tasty vegetables, among others. The choice for desert includes nuts, herbs, honey, bread and pastry, among a very wide selection.

The serving of salads and appetizers will instantly ignite your appetite. Among the most common is Mezedes, a choice for those moments when you receive an impromptu guest or are in a hurry. Other salad and appetizer options include kalamata, gavros, fava and deep friend vegetables. What is referred to as Greek Salad is prepared using finely shred tomatoes that are mixed with cheese, cucumber, red onions and topped with olive oil.

Soups are usually made of vegetables with variations depending on what else is used to flavor it. You may ask for lentil soup where vinegar or olive oil has been added. Rice soup is also served with meat balls. Kakavia is a common serving that uses any species of local fish whose bones have been removed. Chicken and rice soup is also spiced with lemon to make it tasty.

Greek cuisine for vegetarians was also very healthy and nutritious. It also serves as a perfect meal for people who were fasting because it contains all nutrients required for optimal health. Common ingredients included potatoes, carrot dill, oven baked peas, onions and aromatic herbs. Greens also formed part of vegetarian light meals when boiled alongside beans and potatoes.

It is impossible to talk about Greek meals without including sea foods and meat. Beef, lobsters and lean pork were the most common serving. When meat formed part of soup, it was rolled into meat balls. Meat was also seasoned with pepper, lemon and herbs after grilling to make it tastier. The unique rabbit or hare soup was flavored using cinnamon and served alongside a glass of wine.

There are quick meals that require little time to prepare and whose ingredients are not very expensive. Macaroni is a common selection in this category alongside spaghetti and omelet. You may also opt for Hilopites which is savory chicken cut in the shape of a tile and spiced with tomato sauce.

Sweets and deserts formed part of any meal. Common desert included almond which was prepared using meat balls that were coated with sugar and rose water. Nuts also formed part of desert alongside Christmas cookies with powder sugar used as coating. You may also choose to have yogurt with honey and walnuts added.

A wide selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks is available to wash down the meals. Coffee is another common serving with snacks or without. Tea with herbs such as chamomile and mint also makes a tasty selection. Greeks have a tradition of excellently brewed wines and beers. Local liquor is also available with wine and flavoring.
