Features In Modest Islamic Clothing

By Dorothy Walker

One of the most widely practiced culture in the world is Islam. It is renowned for its strict regulations in their attire and mode of worship as well. However, these regulations differ with the different factions within it and which most are considered to be lenient enough. This article details elements in modest Islamic clothing believers are expected to take heed of.

Males are expected to avoid haram items and practice. Haram is an Arabic word meaning something that is against sharia laws. Wearing of silvers commonly regarded as bling and silk clothing is greatly prohibited. They are expected to be worn by women for decoration purposes. Their underneath attire should not go beyond their ankles since these are regarded as uncaring move to indicate how much you can afford different attire.

Clothing is done with the right intentions, and there must be no imitation of other members. It is against sharia laws to put on attire which depicts wealth or undermines your fellow brother capabilities to afford a similar garment. One is expected not to imitate non-Islam or wear something similar to the female believers.

Every woman is required to hide most of their body part. One cannot expose their body apart from their hands or head, but this can differ depending with factions. This should particularly be observed in the presence of non-Muslims. Traditional attire is regarded to be black to avoid seeing through the material. Lenient members consider any color as long it is not a see me through the material and does not show the appearance of their body.

Their head cover varies with the respective subgroup. Conservative factions prefer the burka which completely covers the whole head and leaving a mesh or grill for the woman to see through. The lenient group makes use of the hijab and dupatta which both are veil which is separate from the hijab. The niqab is another type worn by conservatives which is an extension of the hijab but leaves out the oval part of the head.

Their underneath has no regulations like the men attire. Their baseline expectation is to avoid exposing most of their body parts. However, one is only required to expose themselves to brothers to their husbands or their own or any other close male relative. Others including strange Muslim brothers should not see their exposed body.

All the same, these regulations have changed depending on western countries laws. Most have banned the use of niqabs and burkas since they conceal faces which they expect them to be exposed for security purpose. Others have intermarried with other cultures although it is greatly discouraged but have managed to adopt into new ideologies as well.

These changes have been marked by the adoption of modest modern fashion which blends in with the western clothing. Men are wearing casual attire adding on to other variety which remains to signify their Islamic identity. Ladies wear loose top covering as far as their thighs and loose trousers matching their top shade. Hijab has been maintained to show their identity altogether.
