Selecting The Right Cavachon Dog Breeder

By Ryan Burns

Buying a designer breed puppy may be an exciting prospect, but they tend to also come with an impressive price tag. The place from where one purchases their animal is important as the treatment and environment can affect such things as their quality, behavior and health. In Minneapolis, MN, only a dedicated Cavachon dog breeder should be used, for the benefit of new owner and pet alike.

These pups are a mixture of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Bichon Frise, so the AKC does not recognize them as a pure breed. The reason they are categorized as designer dogs is because they have been bred for the purposes of emphasizing certain traits. These particular canines are desired for their lovingly gentle nature, high intelligence and especially for the hypoallergenic properties of their coats.

Their size is considered to be mid range, but on the smaller side. A full grown adult is usually about 12-16 inches in height and weighing 10-20lbs. The mix of these two contributing breeds culminates in an adorable pup that has both a sporty, solid body frame and eyes that are both extra large and brimming with expression, a mix which many people find simply irresistible.

This breed has a coat that may be silky, and slightly wavy, or full of loose curls. They tend to be basically white but marked with patches of sable, red or black, although they are often frequently born in a solid hue or tri-colored. Dander production is very low and shedding is extremely minimal, two traits that are highly sought after by pet lovers who have allergies.

As companions, they are very lovable, affectionate and protective, though not typically aggressive. When socialized while very young, they are very good with children, as well as other pets. They have a very playful manner and are highly intelligent but, as they crave attention, it is best not to leave them unattended or without the company of another animal for long periods of time.

Making it a point to learn about the individual breeding the dogs is one way to better one's chances of purchasing a puppy that is healthy and of quality stock. They should have a clear reputation as one who treats their animals in a loving and humane fashion without housing them in cages when not in service. The canines could be negatively affected if not given the time and space to socialize and exercise.

While looking over the litter, ask to have both parents present. This allows one to not only see how they appear physically, but also to observe their behavior, personality and outward health. The dame and sire should both be well bred Cavachons, and viewing them together can provide a fair idea of the appearance the pups will take when fully grown, as well as any traits they might have inherited.

Prospective new owners should also look around the facility to see how clean it is, especially the area where the animals are kept. Take note of how active the puppies are and whether or not they, and the adults, have a proper space in which to run and exercise. All of these factors can be helpful indicators that one is getting a pet who was appropriately bred and well cared for.
