A bit of careful consideration should be taken prior to deciding to bringing a canine into one's life. It means committing to being responsible for all their emotional, physical and medical needs throughout their lifespan. It would also be wise to know some common traits of the breed before purchasing one of those tiny toy poodles for sale.

Generally speaking, this breed is not only one of the most intelligent ever known, having IQ's higher than other canines, but are also among the more adaptable. Originally bred as hunting companions and retrievers, they take commands very well and can be trained quite easily. Their haughty nature and regal stance has made them a symbol for success and affluence.

Typically, these dogs have a squared body with even legs, rigid tail and long neck that holds a small roundish head. Their faces are quite interesting with a long muzzle, straight hanging ears and far set dark oval eyes. Two of their more distinctive features are their coats, which may be corded or curly like lambs' wool, and their rounded feet with arched toes.

Though they come in a variety of colors, the three most common are black, white and apricot. There are groupings such as the Parti, Tuxedo and Abstract, that feature multiple tones in specific patterns or styles. An interesting fact about this breed is that a puppy may be born with one coloring type but change to a completely different look as it matures.

This particular name is given to the category that encompasses all the dogs in the breed that are no more than ten inches high and that do not exceed twelve pounds. Extremely small specimens, those not breaching 4lbs, are often called Teacups, though the AKC will not officially recognize that as a group. Being the smallest of their type, owners of these pups should be cautious to protect them against injury and vigilant of certain health concerns.

When given good care and having favorable health, the dogs tend to live long lives of about fifteen years or so. With advanced age, however, the onset of genetic diseases such as digestive issues, epilepsy, diabetes, and heart disorders are more likely. Proper ear cleaning can help keep infections away and the eyes should be watched for signs of problems like retinal atrophy or cataracts.

Their adaptability makes them both excellent family pets as well as companions for those who live alone. They are suited for open spaces as much as for apartment dwelling. To get the best indoor behavior, they need to be taken out to exercise and release their pent up energy each day, though they should never be left outside for days on end.

Many people with allergies find this breed to be especially easy to be around because they do not shed and produce practically no dander. They can be taught to perform tricks and find much joy in a simple game of fetch, often willing to play for long periods of time, which is great when children are involved. They respond best to calm, yet authoritative commands, enthusiastic praise and lots of love and affection.
