Information About Contract Working Dogs

By Amy Taylor

History has it that the first animal that got the opportunity to be a mans companion was the dog. These animals have been given the priority of helping people even during wars. Military working dogs have been with the service men helping them restore peace. However, they have seemed to be few and since the defense department had information about contract working dogs the employed their services too.

There is much which remain unknown about these contract animals. You will only have a chance of learning about them once you know how it all started. Military dogs though useful were limited in numbers in most cases. It is for this reason that selected companies were given opportunities to train local dogs into becoming military useful.

Companies that offer them to the military have a role in training these animals so that they match the standards shared by their counterparts which were trained in military bases. The training includes rescue missions, detecting of explosives and even actual combat. Once the animal is ready, they are taken to the war zone directly.

It should be noted that the animal though working with the military, it is not the property of the defense department but that of the company where they belong. It is therefore not the role of the soldiers to take care of the dog in the event of a need beyond feeding. All that happens is that the dog will be in the field and into their kennels till the end of the contract.

Though viewed as heroes, this class of heroes undergo lots of sufferings. There has never been an agreement on how these sorrows can be dealt upon. The animals are treated as laborers where their sole duty is working without any rest including the two-week break enjoyed by all soldiers. More so, they are usually not included in the unit rotation as the others.

The misery reaches its peak once they cannot work any longer. The possible causes of this are age, injuries or sickness. The military can do nothing in ensuring that the dog is well delivered to the owner. However, it is the owner who is expected to keep a keen observation and be in a position to bring the dog back home safely once they have become incapacitated.

If the dog due to insufficient training ends up deserting their masters, they will face the same known punishment of facing a death squad something that may not be their fault. There are instances when the company will not want to deal with a dog that cannot be of help to them. These animals are left in their kennels dejected.

The only means of making these canines feel appreciated is through getting them back into homes through adopting them. The procedure of adopting a military dog is more cumbersome than that of a contract dog. It is, however, advisable that you ensure that the animal you are dealing with can easily be domesticated since the training received was for a war zone, not a peaceful home.
